Book review: Juta – a graphic novel by Vasu Primlani

Juta is a graphic novel by stand-up comedian and award winning environmentalist Vasu Primlani. Juta literally means shoe in Hindi was the name by which Vasu’s father addressed her as a child.

In its early pages the book introduces itself as the story of Vasu, her father Pama and her childhood friend Sahira- divided into five chapters titled Delhi, Sahira, USA, Pama and Prison.

This 234 page comic-book with Vasu as its author and with art credited to Vasu and to Vannessa Alejandra Guiterrez Castillo is a masterpiece of story-telling and twists in the tale. I read it in a single sitting, and then read again and again – reflecting upon it until finally now sitting down to review it.
